Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founder Edition Review

Nvidia’s top-tier GPU for gamers is the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition. It’s built on the company’s recently launched “Turing” architecture, which includes a slew of new technologies. At the forefront are its ray tracing and AI-driven capabilities, which promise greater image quality and performance

Specs and Features:

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the first graphics card from the firm to boast a factory overclock of 90MHz. It boasts 11GB of VRAM, 4,352 CUDA cores, and a 1,635MHz boost clock. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti features 11GB of memory and a maximum clock of 1,582MHz, which is lower than its predecessor. RT and Tensor cores are two more types of cores found on this card that its predecessors lacked.

Design and Cooling:

The 2080 Ti, Nvidia’s latest Turing-based graphics card, has a dual-fan cooling mechanism. On a reference card, this is the first time the business has used a two-fan cooling solution. In addition, the card has a full-length vapor chamber that covers the entire printed circuit board, or PCB. During our testing, we discovered that the new cooling system performed admirably, keeping the card cool and quiet.

Connectivity and Power:

Thanks to twin 13-blade fans and a metal heatsink shroud, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition card boasts a unique cooling approach. Both cards include a twin-fan cooling system and video-out connectivity, but their looks and power interfaces are different. For SLI functionality, the RTX 2080 Ti has two NVLink ports along its top edge. Pascal’s high-bandwidth bridge has been replaced by the $79 bridge. It has four DisplayPort video output channels and USB 3.1 Gen2 SuperSpeed data transfer. Turing supports just two-way SLI, which is a break from prior Nvidia graphics designs.


Currently, the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti is the world’s most powerful consumer graphics card. It outperforms the competition by at least 2,000 points in practically every synthetic benchmark and by at least 10 frames per second (fps) in each of our gaming-based testings. Aside from benchmarks, we were now able to play Destiny 2 at an astounding 70 to 100 frames per second when playing in 4K HDR on Ultra.

Review: Featuring ray tracing enabled, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and other games with Nvidia RTX look incredible. Early iterations of the game averaged 40 to 50 frames per second, which is astounding considering the game runs on a single GPU and uses all of the new ray-tracing techniques. Even though it outperforms the Titan XP and 1080 Ti, the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti uses less electricity.

Real-World Gaming:

For consistent testing, PC Labs uses the built-in benchmark in the following titles. Look for the settings used in the charts, which are usually the highest in-game presets (and, if available, DirectX 12). At 4K, the Founders Edition RTX 2080 Ti outperformed the GTX 1080 Ti by 30%. Occasionally, one is faster than the other, but only by a few percentage points in most cases. The benchmarks have now reached a stage where they can be predicted.

The Founders Edition RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition continue to imitate one another. The only GPU in this comparison that can produce 60 frames per second or more at 4K. World of Tanks Encore isn’t particularly tough, but it’s still a good test. Despite its 2016 release, Tom Clancy’s The Division is still a difficult game to handle. PC Labs put three games through their paces with high dynamic range (HDR) turned on to see how they fared.


  • Design that is quiet and cool to run.
